apparently penetrated the handkerchief. The right was withdrawn from under the |
handkerchief, turned the cardboard over showing the coin that just appeared and placed |
the cardboard into the left hand in preparation for the next penetration. In so doing the |
hidden coin was transferred to the left hand. Then the coin and cardboard in the left |
was placed over the two visible coins that were beside each other. The business of |
moving a coin under the handkerchief was done with the other visible coin. Once the |
second coin was shown to have arrived at the collection spot and the hidden coin |
loaded, the second piece of cardboard was raised to show nothing there. |

The first version of what became Matrix consisted of switching the Sympathetic Coin |
trick over to a non-handkerchief handling. I thought the penetration followed by a |
transposition was illogical. Then, I used playing cards instead of square pieces of |
cardboard. The overall plot was the same. Two cards were used covering two coins |
here and then two coins there. At one point the lower right coin was picked up and |
moved to the upper left position. Then the coin at the lower left position was picked up |
