| I had thought of putting references to other books in which Matrix has appeared. I |
| simply can’t keep track of them. For example, there was an occasion I was |
| standing in the local magic shop here in St. Paul and found I had nothing to do for a |
| moment. There was a small booklet in the bookrack that had a title like, “Miracle |
| Coins.” Every time I came into the shop, I would see this book out of the corner of |
| my eye. I ignored it for years. During this moment of having nothing to do, I pulled |
| the booklet from the rack and flipped it open to see what it was about. It was a Matrix |
| Somehow I made it through college and avoided marriage. I had moved to Denver, |
| where I went to only one magic meeting, then moved to Minneapolis, MN a year later. |
| There I pursued magic actively, belonging to both the SAM and IBM. |
| In 1972 at an IBM magic convention in Milwaukee, I was hanging out with Larry |
| Jennings. During one of our conversations, he said I should put this Coin-n-Cards |
| routine into print. I hemmed and hawed. I had no idea how to do that. Then he |
| grabbed me by the arm and dragged me up to Bill Larson’s hotel room. Bill Larson |
| was then the owner of Genii magazine. Jennings told Mr. Larson that he should put |
