with something. The new something happens to be exactly what we had read years
ago but our egos do not let us remember. On many occasions, I have talked to good,
competent, honest magicians that have shown me some of the things they have been
working on. Some of it was exactly like the pictures from my book, Al Schneider on
Coins, which has been out for a long time. The motions are the same; the variations of
handling are the same. I swear I am looking at a reflection of my hands as they perform
the moves. I asked them where they got it and they say they developed it on their own.
I do not know what to say.

Then there is the issue of improvement. Someone can read an effect, improve upon it
and publish their version. To them it is not the same. To the inventor, it can appear as
a copy. From this point of view, Matrix itself is an “improvement” of another
trick called Sympathetic Coins. Perhaps the inventor of that claims I copied him. I do
not know what to say. Often there are those that say they have a better version using
shell coins and moving the coins with their hands. These seem very similar to a trick
called “Chink-a-Chink”. The version of “Chink-a-Chink” I know uses
either a shell or simply an extra object. Why do these people claim theirs is original?
In addition, why do they say it is an improved Matrix? Again, I do not know what to
say.
