It actually is a good move. It solves
several problems right away. The break is
gotten and the card is displayed in a fairly
normal way.
Squeeze Get Ready
This is the move I use when doing an
ambitious card routine. Squeezing the cards
to cause a card to jump to the top of the
deck works well for me.

Face Up Spread Get Ready
Often I see magicians do a complicated
get ready when the get ready was almost
automatic. For example, some routines
require a card be found and shown to the
audience. The deck is spread to locate the
card and it is moved to the top. Then the
