happen at that point. The question is, do you wish to be a magician or act as if you are
a magician?

I am fascinated that a performer can be inches away from the audience, but be
light-years away from understanding what the audience is seeing.

Now that I’m on the subject, I would like to talk about other good/bad things about
Matrix. Matrix is constructed so that there are no extraneous moves executed during its
performance. In many tricks, one might perform ten actions to show one magic event.
Consider Matrix. There is the part where the cards are covered. In my version, this
requires four motions. However, if presented correctly, the audience will not associate
this with the “performance” of the effect. If you chat while you place the cards

perform something, the audience will not see this as a part of the routine. After the
cards are placed on the table there is exactly two motions per magic event, the cards are
raised to reveal the fact that a coin has traveled from one location to another, and the
coins are covered again.

To a normal magician this presents a problem. The normal magician is accustomed to
performing moves. Thus, as there are so few moves, the average magician performs
